If you are looking for things to do in Muskegon, Michigan, the state's largest amusement park is ready to welcome your family. The park includes over 60 rides, with roller coasters, water slides and fun for the entire family. In the amusement park, climb to 125 feet on Shivering Timbers, the longest and fastest Michigan roller coaster. For something a bit tamer, ride the Frog Hopper or the carousel. If you want to cool down, visit Michigan Adventure's water park, WildWater Adventure. Enter the Funnel of Fear on a tube or coast around the lazy river and soak up the sun. Bring your little kiddos to Half-Pint Paradise to enjoy seven kid-sized slides and a splash pad full of fun sea creatures.

Hackley and Hume Historic Sites

The Hackley and Hume Historic Sites are one of the best places to see in Muskegon, Michigan. These homes built in the late 1800s boast Tiffany-type stained glass windows, ceramic tiles and a carriage house. Homes are open for winter tours beginning Thanksgiving weekend. The beautiful and unique Victorian architecture was designed by David S. Hopkins. The homes have since been restored to their original condition, and you can tour the houses to view their beauty. Purchase tickets at the City Barn, located at 484 West Webster Avenue.

This highly respected art museum offers free admission on Thursdays and the second Saturday of the month. On other days, children 17 and under are free. The museum includes a full schedule of special exhibits that often rotate, so there is always something new to see. You can also visit the museum gift shop. The museum collection includes John Steuart Curry, Francoise Gilot, Mary Cassat and Edward Hopper. The artwork on display has works in many mediums, from paintings and photography to sculpture. At the museum gift shop, you can find various unique items created by local artists.

Craig's Cruisers Family Fun Center

Another fun thing to do in Muskegon is to visit this indoor and outdoor entertainment center that offers laser tag, video games, miniature golf, bumper boats and go-karts. Some attractions are seasonal, but the location is open all year round, so stop by and play games inside, even when the weather is chilly. It is a great place to bring your kids and spend the afternoon. Win prizes in the arcade or take a swing in the batting cages. The entertainment center even includes a buffet to grab a slice of pizza and a drink.

Muskegon's premier live music venue and brewery features a taproom, brew house, outdoor beer garden and craft pizza. This brewery has an edge, but there is something for everyone to enjoy. Sample a wide selection of beer flavors from Orange Julius to Revel Rouser. If you are not in the mood for beer, order some delicious food. On the weekends, the restaurant hosts live band performances. Bands from all over the United States play at this bar. The rest of the week, music pumps through the speakers, and you can hear everything from Green Day to Matt Williams. Great bartenders create a fun atmosphere during your visit, making every visitor feel welcome.

Frauenthal Center

The Frauenthal Center is a performing arts center located in the heart of downtown Muskegon. The theater dates back to 1929, originally going by the name, "The Michigan Theater". Founded by Muskegon movie mogul, Paul Shlossman, the theater has become a historic symbol of the arts and creativity in the Muskegon community. Over the years, the theater has undergone multiple rounds of renovations and improvements. Today, the theater is host to many live music performances, stage plays and ballet recitals. This location is great for a nice evening out with a significant other or family.

The P. J. Hoffmaster State Park is a recreational area that has a lot to offer. Situated on over three miles of the Lake Michigan shoreline, sand dunes, the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center, and over 10 miles of nature trails. The Monet Garden Of Muskegon

Inspired by the Monet Garden in Giverny, France, The Monet Garden Of Muskegon is an artsy community landmark. Transformed from a vacant city lot, the area now is comprised of a wide variety of colorful flowers, and even has a small pond with the garden's signature blue bridge. During the day, the garden is great for a relaxing and peaceful stroll. At night, the garden is illuminated, making it the perfect spot for a romantic evening.

Known as just "Kruse Park" by the locals, this Muskegon attraction is a great place for families with kids and pets. Kruse Park is over 50-acres and has stunning views of Lake Michigan and the nearby sand dunes. The park has its very own dog area and playground for kids. The park is even a popular picnic spot too.

Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center, part of P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, features spectacular dunes and 2.5 miles of Lake Michigan beach. A state park permit is required. At the visitor center, you can view exhibits and learn about the history of the area's dunes. You can also explore a wooded back dune area or take the dune climb stairway to the top of the sandy peaks. From an observation deck at the top, you can view the expansive dunes.
